Yup, you saw it here first. Cryptic Globe Recording is the first DAW builder to build, test, and offer a relatively affordable 16 core DAW! The power available with this system is truly stunning! First, the disclaimers: This system requires a server operating system. We use Microsoft Standard Server Operating Systems (2003, 2003 x64, 2008, & 2008 x64). We have, and are continuing to test this with a variety of software platforms and 2nd part instruments and plug-ins. However, to be SURE everything you use we recommend you contact the manufacturer to be sure it will work with one of these operating systems. Many manufacturers have not tested, and thus won't offer support, but you will probably find that if the product works on XP and Vista it will work perfectly. However if there is a demo available, we will test it here for you before you buy... we have a CGR-7 here working away at CGR. :) We highly recommend Cubase 4 or Nuendo 4 for the CGR-7 as we have tested them carefully here. We will work with you pre-purchase to be sure your DAW software WILL work though no matter what it is.
Now... performance?? Glad you asked! With this system and the stock 2.0Ghz processors in Cubase 4 for example, with RME or Lynx hardware; to run a 48 channel project at 48K, a 64 buffer setting (1.5ms latency), and 4 stereo headphone mixes, 4 reverbs with less than 8% CPU load is no big deal! Easily load up on VST-I's at 64 buffer beyond what you could imagine! Mixing? 350+ waves SSL channel strips at a 1024 buffer and plenty of room to grow! This is the computer that will let you set it at 64 buffers (1.5ms latency) and never have to look at buffers again!
